VA Underwriting Guidelines

VA underwriting guidelines will help you understand VA requirements.  Is a VA loan right for you?  There may be better loans, ... you decide.  This site is also very detail focused so real estate professionals will also find value here.

If you are a Veteran I suggest you also review the information on www.mortgageunderwriters.com.  That site will give you an overall view on the loans available in the mortgage industry today.

I say this because I am a Veteran (U.S. Navy).  We purchased our first home using a VA loan.  But, that was years ago and there were not available the loans that are on the market today.  We had no other option because we had no money to put down.  Our credit was good and our income was very good (thanks to our Navy training) but there were no loans requiring less than 5% down. That was $8,000 for us back in 1984.  That was a lot of money then.

Today, you are blessed.  There are many loans on the market for you to choose from and many of those loans are easier to qualify for than a VA loan.  A VA loan is a great loan, no money down, but qualifying for it is close to the same as any other conforming loan. A VA loan is strict on appraisal requirements and the documentation requirements may seem overwhelming.

This web site will soon contain more information than you ever wanted to know about VA loans guidelines.  Until then, visit the site above as it does cover some of the VA guidelines.  If you have something specific you can send me an email.
